Home Care Aide (HCA) Job Description
There are caregivers and there are those who are Angels on earth. That's who we are looking for - the individuals who recognize the importance of this position, who recognize that older adults truly need them and hence, dependability, loyalty, maturity, high sense of responsibility is critical. If you're just passing through on your way to being a nurse, we can provide you with very helpful skills, meaningful experience. But if you're passing through just because people in your field are not hiring right now - Visiting Angels is not the place for you because change breaks the hearts of older adults and disrupts their life--we really need people who can stay a while. (and many have--our turnover rate is nearly half of the industry turnover!) Some of our clients just need companionship right now but you still need to have the skills and willingness to assist with ADLs (activities of daily living)--bathing, grooming, transfer, incontinence care, etc. Our clients also look to us for a little bit of help --laundry, change of beddings, meal prep, light housekeeping. Very important: you must be able, willing and must qualify for the State to register you. (Fingerprinting unearths your record, even those expunged, from age 18 to present). Registration is $35, and fingerprinting is around $74 (we help with the cost). You must also have what it takes to perform the duties - good communications skills (verbal and written English), ability to handle up to 25 lbs. of dead weight if necessary, understand and carry out instructions, manage the day, provide reminders, etc. Driving is not required but if you don't drive, it does limit the opportunities. We have an excellent Program of Education/Continuous Education curriculum. Although experience and/or appropriate formal training is preferred, some of our rising stars are new to healthcare, successfully applying what they learned from our Program! Part-time (as low as 8 hrs/week possible), full-time, live-ins (coming up in January). Most of our clients need help between Mon and Fri, between 8AM and 5PM, but we do get calls for after 5PM and on weekends (this involves differential pay). The Compensation range here is not able to capture our range. We pay min wage during training, and then we have base pay ($14-16) and if you work after 5 pm or weekends, ($15.60 - 17.60), and if you take care of two people, we pay a higher differential - in the $20 range). We would love to talk to you if you are interested -- call us!
