Home Care Aide (HCA) Job Description
Visiting Angels in Gilroy has been trusted by folks from Morgan Hill, San Martin, Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista - to provide the care they need AND they are sending us their friends, their neighbors, their relatives! We have a waiting list of clients who are eager to meet their Angel. If you are looking for a meaningful job and would like to discuss possibilities, we will make time for you to determine if caregiving is for you! If you are an experienced caregiver, we should talk! Per State law, you must be qualified to register with the State. (The process is simple - you fill out an application, then get fingerprinted. Their Live Scan does go back to age 18, and unearths everything (even what has been expunged) BUT if the marks on your record is considered non-threatening to older adults by the State, they will allow you to apply for an exemption. We can help you with the exemption application process. You must also be able to read/write/comprehend English at the 12th grade level, have the legal right to work in the US, and be fit enough to help clients with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, etc.) This may include but is not limited to assisting with client transfer (i.e. moving from wheelchair to chair, etc.) which could mean dealing with up to 25 lbs. of dead weight. Patience, dependability and maturity is a must, to deal with folks who are facing many challenges that could affect their physical and mental capabilities. Must be willing to work with both males and females and provide incontinent care at some point, if necessary. We are looking for people who are not just passing through as they wait for a position in retail. We are looking for people whose hearts feel the tug for this type of work, or they are passing through on the way to a nursing position. To join our team, you must --at the minimum, be able to work twice a week (Tu, Th) morning or afternoon for a total of 8 hours. We have part-time hours and enough cases to give you up to 40 hours. Although weekend openings are not as common - at this time, we have a need for a Sat/Sun 9-3PM caregiver, a 8-12 Sun caregiver. We have cases for someone who can work Mon to Fri mornings or afternoons and Wed/Fri morning cases as well. It is not uncommon for us to have you working the hours you wish within a week after orientation! The turnover amongst our caregiver team is half of the industry turnover! There are many reasons caregivers come to join us, and those who left for greener pastures come back to us. Check us out!
