Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Job Description
The PCA position requires the ability to read write and follow instructions. This position requires the completion of training or passing competency assessment which is appropriate for understanding needs of the population served. In addition, the PCA must be knowledgeable of the client's service plan at the time services are provided. These needs are but not limited to, basic meal preparation, provision of transportation services (if applicable), housekeeping, home safety, handling emergencies in the home and infection control. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Specific tasks performed by the technician shall include, but are not limited to the following: PERSONAL CARE ACTIVITIES a. Assist with bath b. Assist with oral hygiene c. Assist with hair care d. Assist resident with bowel elimination e. Assist with getting dressed NUTRITION a. Encourage proper nutrition within dietary restrictions. b. Prepare meal and wash dishes c. Assist with feeding the resident as needed. INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE a. Shopping b. Running errands c. Community Activities MEDICALLY RELATED ACTIVITIES a. Remind resident to take medications and document on the MAR b. Apply first aid in case of sudden illness/incident c. Schedule appointments with doctors, clinics, etc. d. Observe and report change in resident's condition e. Pick up patient's prescription drugs HEALTH AND SAFETY PROMOTION a. Encourage safety measures b. Encourage personal hygiene practices c. Advise in operation of household appliances d. Inspect house for hazards e. Assist with ambulation HOUSEKEEPING AND CLEANING a. Vacuum, sweeping, mopping b. Dusting c. Clean community rooms, bath, kitchen, and bedroom d. Discard trash e. Change linens f. Laundry g. Ironing h. Defrost refrigerator i. Clean range j. Straighten and arrange closets, drawers, and cabinets The Personal Care Assistant documents on appropriate forms as required. Reports any unusual conditions to the Nursing Manager or Administrator. Be able to work under supervision and within the guidelines of this home health agency. Attend in-services/staff meetings as required. Represents agency in a loyal manner, and performs other duties assigned.
