Home Care Aide (HCA) Job Description
Position Description: A Home Care Aide (HCA) is a non-licensed member of the in-home private duty team who assists the client with the tasks of daily living as outlined in a written care plan that is established by Geriatric Care Manager or Registered Nurse Supervisor and is kept in the client's home. HCAs are supervised by the Client Care Coordinator at Keen Home Care (KHC) and receive scheduling direction from the agency Staffing Coordinator. Qualifications: 1. A Home Care Aide must have a minimum of one year of work experience which is verifiable through references, and must complete Keen Home Care's (KHC) employment process, able to pass KHC's background check. Work experience can include, but is not limited to 6 months of experience as a personal aide or equivalent life experience and/or Certification of CNA, HHA or NA completion. 2. Must be registered with the California Department of Social Services - Home Care Services Bureau and have an active HCA number. 3. Must be at least 18 years of age. 4. Must have flexibility to travel to assignments. 5. Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position (i.e., able to carry bundles up or down stairs, lift with or without assistance of at least 10lbs and not more than 25lbs.). Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and reach freely and assists clients with standing and walking. 6. Must be able to perform Activities of Daily Living (bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, incontinent care), assist with transfers and mobility, properly turn and reposition client, have knowledge of basic medical terminology, and have compassion. 7. Must exhibit mature, responsible behavior, and understand the need for the client confidentiality. 8. Must be able to read, write, understand and speak English. 9. Must be able to follow direction and accurately report any change in client's condition. 10. Must have available reliable transportation to and from assignments. 11. If driving, must be able to show proof of valid liability insurance, valid driver's license and a copy of a current driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles. 12. Must be able to show proof of U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the United States. Duties: The duties of a Home Care Aide (HCA) may include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Planning and preparing meals according to specific dietary requirements of the client. 2. Maintaining a safe, clean and healthy environment through light housekeeping including changing bed linens, dusting and vacuuming, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, and laundry. 3. Providing companionship and stimulation for the client including reading, walks, etc.; and accompanying the client to doctors or other appointments. 4. Grocery shopping or other errands when needed. 5. Adhere to and perform tasks as indicated in the care plan: * Assist client with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and nutritional needs. * Assist client with ambulation, transfers, and/or range of motion exercises. * Perform delegated tasks as instructed by the Client Care Coordinator or other members of the client care team. * Perform acceptable standard healthcare practices. 6. OBSERVE and REPORT client's condition and safety hazards to the Client care Coordinator or other members of the client care team in a timely manner. 7. DOCUMENT observations and activities in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. 8. Possess organizational skills necessary to carry out visit/shift and to complete assigned work tasks. 9. Protect client health information according to KHC's policy and procedures, as well as with federal and state laws and regulations (HIPPA). 10. Maintain professional appearances, attitude and demeanor while on duty. 11. Perform other miscellaneous tasks which would normally be required of a personal care attendant. 12. Provide requested documents to keep employee information current.
