Caregiver Job Description
The Companion/Sitter/ Respite Care Technician is a paraprofessional providing non-hands-on services in the home for clients under the direct supervision of a qualified supervisor. Companion services include home management, meal prep, transportation, companionship, and socialization or respite breaks for family or caregivers. Organizational Relationship: reports directly to the Service Supervisor Risk of Occupational Exposure to Blood-Borne Pathogens: A: High exposure Qualifications: A high school graduate or be certified under the G.E.D. Program. Six (6) months’ work experience. Must complete an Agency training/orientation. Must have a criminal background check. Must be able to read, write in English, and follow instructions. Responsibilities: The duties consist of a combination of activities, which include, but are not limited to: Respite breaks for family or caregivers Home Management tasks Shopping Meal Preparation Companionship Socialization Medication reminders Observation and feedback to the coordinator/designated supervisor on the client’s behavior, mood, and adjustment in the home. Notifies superior of any safety issues discovered. The Companion performs duties according to a written Plan of Care: Follows the Plan of Care as written. Documents each visit by Agency policy. Communicate every week or more often as necessary with the Service Supervisor. Immediately report emergencies by phone to the supervisor or office. Keeps an accurate time and mileage report. Follow assignments and regulations. Uses policy manual as guideline for service. Works within the organizational channel of authority. Wear appropriate clothing and an I.D. badge when at work. Participate in the Agency QA Committee. We confirm the scheduling of visits with the Service Supervisor every week to coordinate necessary visits with other personnel. Notifying the Agency of absences due to illness, emergency leave, regular vacation periods, or special professional meetings will affect the agreed service with the Agency. Must be able to read 12-point or more significant type. Must be able to hear and speak in English. You must be able to stop and bend. Must be able to travel to prospective clients’ residences. Must be able to carry bundles weighing up to 10 pounds upstairs
